Metaprogramming Intro Published

Yesterday morning I published an introduction to Ruby metaprogramming I've been working on for the last couple of weeks. I've had some really good discussions with developers around earlier versions of the article, so I'm hoping it will be a valuable resource for people taking a first look at some of the cool stuff Ruby has to offer.

Handoff!

I just finished the initial commits and set up of a new project called Handoff on Rubyforge. It provides a fluent interface for unit testing simple delegation. I'll be posting something to Practical Ruby about it in the next couple of days. Until then, check out the project pages and RDocs.

Minor Updates

I've been busy as hell with work lately.

At the beginning of December I started on a Ruby on Rails project in New Jersey with an incredible team of ThoughtWorkers. After ... I can't remember how long ... of playing with Ruby and Rails in my spare time, it's been absolutely great to finally get to work with the stack full-time. It's not just Ruby though: our pairing stations are double-monitor MacMinis, so we also use the very Rails-friendly TextMate. Since I use TextMate on personal stuff, this reduced ramp-up pain a lot.

I'm also working with Jay Fields and others on a new Ruby edition of Martin Fowler's Refactoring. (Look for blogging about our work on the book at the just-created rubyrefactoring.blogspot.com.) This has been a great way to stay busy and productive when the weather's crap, I'm stuck on a plane, or I have a cold. (I'm in the home stretch of my second cold in three weeks. Annoying.)

In other news, this is my first post since converting over to the new version of Blogger. The only big difference I appreciate so far as labels. Hopefully they work like they should.

Man I'm hungry.
